Re: First non-terrible color hologram
The replay color is much better under laser light, the white block is much whiter, and the yellow one looks much more yellow. The red block is way too bright though. I ordered the U04 about three years ago, well before I got the laser, so its not the right film, but nothing to lose playing with it. ...

Re: pre-fix wash?
My understanding is that sodium or ammonium thiosulfate is only relevent to silver halide chemistry. That the point to using photographic fixer is that it also includes a hardener. But my efforts did not get good results when I added a hardener (potassium alum). I used 1% potassium metabisulfate (an...

First non-terrible color hologram
Taken on old U04 film, with 457 nm, 532 nm, and 660 nm. Its only really rated to 650nm, so I overexposed the red. Perhaps too much.
Illuminated with an ikea LED.

Re: Hologram 193.3
Thanks! Hopfully my notes are useful to someone... My methodology is based pretty much entirely on reading old holography forum discussions.
Nnnn, go for it! You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. The worst that will happen is a getting jello everywhere.

Re: First Light with Integraf Kit
Yes, the horzontal bands are from light hitting the top edge of the plate, and bouncing back and forth inside the plate. I use a black dry erase marker to cover the top edge of the plate, and block the light from getting into the plate. Then before putting it in the developer, rub the dry erase mark...

Hologram 193.3
http://www.bobdbob.com/~tjohnson/DCG/hologram_193.3.jpg Second "production" DCG hologram. The first one didn't come out, the subject was too squishy, and moved during the exposure. Note the shadow on the lower right side, the subject moved slightly. 20% 250 bloom gelatin mold coated with ...

Re: Hologram 189.1
Thanks! I started with a sequence number in my official paper notebook. I've just started volume 3 so I don't want to change my nomenclature too much... (-: For DCG, I have condensed the variables into a table at http://www.bobdbob.com/~tjohnson/DCG/ . The images are properly indexed with ISO dates.

Hologram 189.1
http://www.bobdbob.com/~tjohnson/DCG/hologram_189.1.jpg This is my best one sofar. The picture was taken in my yard in sunlight. It is a bit yellower in real life. 20% 250 bloom gelatin mold coated with scotch tape shims (2 mils) dried about 5 days (mostly because I had to go to work...) sensitized...

Re: pre-fix wash?
Yes, definately more hardener... but its weirder than that. This one was sensitized with a 5% solution of K dichromate. If I do the same thing, only sensitize with a 3% solution, then its much more narrow band. In both cases, I washed it 1 minute in distilled water before the K metabisulfate. So the...
