Re: 1st time on DCG Project

coating plates is currently one of the most tedious and unreliable parts of holography for me. A thread about novel coating methods would be great :) I totally agree. Coating is the most difficult, soul destroying and frustrating part of DCG. I find that casting (mould coating) to be consistent, bu...

Re: 1st time on DCG Project

controller and laser head is a bit hot but still can touch :? :? May be I need to wait longer. The both the laser head and analogue controller should be mounted on heat sinks, they should not be hot to the touch! The user manual states that warm up time should be less than 10 minutes. If you look a...

Re: 1st time on DCG Project

From sam's laser faq: "However, there is an additional 2 pin header on the controller which may be labeled: "Autostart Jumper" or "Interlock Jumper". It is between the DB15 and Digital Controller connector. With a jumper installed, the laser will start up automatically upon power-on even without any...

Re: 1st time on DCG Project

The connector is on the wrong way. 180 degrees off. ETA: Wait a minute. The beveled side of the connector should be down, which it is, but the cable is coming out the other side. Hmmm. This is very confused. It looks to be on the correct way if you look at the photo of the original item on ebay. I ...

Re: cyrstal clear gelatin film?

I haven't used Knox gelatin, so I don't know how brown it is. I believe that Knox is quite popular amongst home holographers in the USA. All of the gelatins I have, have some colouration of sorts when viewed in the packet, or when dissolved in water, but as we are just using thin coatings of tens of...

Re: ideal temp and RH for working with DCG process

Hi Ahgu, According to the wiki: http://holowiki.org/wiki/DCG_Variables "Room Temp (exposure) - Warmer increased sensitivity. Room Humidity (exposure) - More humid increased sensitivity." I have exposed DCG with room a humidity from about 45% to 58% or more with temperature ranges between 16 deg C an...

Re: Question about dichromate

Personally I think the biggest risk to health is the accidental inhalation when handling the powdered form of AmDi or KDi. However, both compounds are reasonably heavy and unless you are careless you are unlikely to have problems with airborne chemicals. The key is to be gentle when handling such ch...

Re: Short time reference beam

Maybe the bright hologram was the result of having a better beam ratio?

Re: is this speckle?

I would think so Joe. I get the same "grain" effect in my holograms, but we both know that there's no grain in DCG. I believe the amount of speckle, or how visible it is, will be proportional to the coherence length of the laser. You get less speckle with a laser that has a shorter coherent length. ...

Re: DIY simple interferometer question

The critical parameters when trying to use a cheap laser diode for holography is current and temperature stability. Some cheap laser diodes are totally unsuitable for holography, see links below. http://hololaser.kwaoo.me/ http://hololaser.kwaoo.me/laser/modeanalysis.html When starting out, keep it ...
