Re: Newb(?) question about perceived depth
Is there a type of hologram that could display an image as if it were far off in the distance? Yes, with reservations. The reconstruction of any hologram is presumed to be illuminated with a point source. That is, the reconstruction source must be as narrow as the laser itself. The photons used to ...

Re: pulsed holography
The pulse width is also a factor. All films require a certain amount of energy to maximise whatever physical change is caused by the actinic radiation (hardness, reduction of silver salts etc) - the exposure. The power of a laser is a figure determining the amount of energy per second. Thus a 10,000...

Re: Introductions
To make what I call an achromat (also called "open aperture" - A lot of people such as Jeff Weil call an "achromat a multi-slit rainbow arranged at the so-called "Benton angles" so as to fuse the slits and make them 'white'), you make an H1 as normal, ie object beam(s) and r...

Re: Sealing DCG
New materials have come out that are more resistant to humidity. At the end of the day, it really depends on what you intend to do with them. If you simply do it as a hobby and keep your holograms in your area, the same old stuff will work just fine. If, however, you intend to send them to parts wit...

Re: Introductions
I have noticed that I will have to re-study some of the holography Colin, you may find this link useful: http://holowiki.org/wiki/Beginner's_Corner  Actually, I'm joking, of course. It's just 'object beam - reference beam'. You don't need bloody Kogelnik to make a porcelain cat! With all your ...

Re: It's time...guidance apppreciated.
I think that a higher power laser is probably the way to go, assuming you want to invest in holography. As for more sensitive plates, silver is already the most sensitive material out there. What you have to consider is the type of hologram you want to make. First, the laser: THE most important thin...

Re: It's time...guidance apppreciated.
When I saw the kits where the plate rests against the object, I was highly skeptical. Is it really that simple now!?? Will the quality be good? You seem to be talking about the Liti kit. I've heard mixed reports. Some here on the forum seem to have got good results, while I never did. The basic iss...

Re: the word "hologram"
Petr, a telephone was a method of voice communication alone. You used a telephone (Greek: "distant hearing") to speak to someone and, initially, you got connected via a switchboard. Later, you had a unique numerical code ("phone number"). But, the point is that a telephone allowe...

Re: the word "hologram"
Petr, I recall we tried to find a definition of holography that would include all the techniques that uses traditional holograhy (e-beam etc) and exclude all other imaging, reconstructing and recording systems, but we found it impossible. But, the thing I find amusing is that everyone calls it a &qu...

Re: the word "hologram"
As an English major in school, we were taught that language is constantly changing, and that as usage of a word changes, the meaning of the word changes. Whether right or wrong, the popular use of a word determines its meaning. Joe, I've been saying this for a number of years now. But, the holograp...
