Re: question about PFG-04
Thank you Martin. If there's a noble metal salt, it must do an effective job.

Re: question about PFG-04
There was also some information on the Integraf site stating that the emulsion was 23-27u. Surprisingly thick.

question about PFG-04
The commercial DCG holographic plates PFG-04 have been available for many years: https://www.geola.com/product/pfg-04-plates/ So people must be actually using them. But I have no recollection of seeing results being reported, or photos of the finished holograms. The interesting thing is that they ha...

Re: "bad" batch of dichromate chemical?
Thanks for the clarification, Din. Martin, thanks for the solubility table, I've added it to my favorites. I was surprised to see potassium chromate have such a high solubility compared to ammonium dichromate, not to mention potassium dichromate. Since I have the potassium chromate available, I may ...

Re: "bad" batch of dichromate chemical?
Thanks for your help, Din. That's a good point about the lower solubility of the potassium dichromate. When I planned to mix the stock solution, I knew nothing about it (compared to ammonium) but decided to do a quick check. I was shocked to see that, as you said, the solubility is about 1/3rd of th...

"bad" batch of dichromate chemical?
Been having some problems with my DCG, and was wondering if it has to do with the potassium dichromate. Several plates (with two different kinds of gelatin) had strange swirls and other markings on the plate which I haven't seen before. My first thought was that it's unlikely that the potassium dich...

Re: gelatin tests
In case anyone is interested, the manuscript version of that paper on scattering is available at: https://opg.optica.org/directpdfaccess/206aa99e-b995-4b8b-b91f12a0e3c0fdfb_380867/ao-57-3-527.pdf?da=1&id=380867&seq=0&mobile=no I'm surprised that they're asking $35 for that paper, when th...

potassium dichromate
Wanting to do some monochrome DCG's, I decided to try potassium dichromate rather than ammonium. I think the potassium will make an easier transition to dye-sensitized color DCG, if needed. Also, it's claimed that it produces "redder" holograms. Red has been the more difficult color for me...

Re: gelatin tests
Din, Thanks very much for your help. I will try to get that paper soon. Also, I appreciate your earlier comments on how to reduce scatter. In my recent holograms, I was making a big error with regards to baffling. Not with stray light from my optics (at least I don't think so), but rather with my te...
