Re: What's the consensus on optical tables?

To both of you beginners, you seem to be having conniptions over stability. Us older holographers from the 70's and 80's didn't have a lot of resources such as forums and EBay, so we made do with whatever we could lay our hands on. A lot of us turned dumpster driving into an art form! So, yes, I agr...

Re: molar concentrations

It's just the molecular weight dissolved in one litre. You look up the atomic weights in, for example, any periodic table, add them up and dissolve that amount in grams into one litre of water. So ammonium dichromate - [(NH4)2]Cr2O7 is two nitrogens with atomic wt 14, 8 hydrogens with atomic wt 1, tw...

Re: What's the consensus on optical tables?

When we theoreticians tell you it can't be done, it can't be done. Such as rotating polarization with a pair of mirrors? That was a long thread! :D :D To tell you the truth, I was really trying to understand why the polarisation ended up as it did. I fully accept that rotating mirrors will change p...

Re: What's the consensus on optical tables?

Maybe (read: most likely) there are other reasons Well, take a look at your credit card.To make the quantities required to put holograms on credit cards you need to make hundreds of thousands, up to over a million holograms. This cannot be done one at a time as Denisyuks. In the larger picture, I d...

Law of Procrastination

Finally, all those of you who keep stating that you're going to start shooting "sometime" (are you listening Colin Kaminsky and Bob Hess?), you now can refer to an Universal Law of Procrastination as justifying why you haven't got around to shooting anything yet! http://scitation.aip.org/c...

Re: Introductions

Well, as a dcg holographer, let me say that dcg is like walking on a shaky bridge while juggling five balls! As I mentioned (and Petr also re-iterated) there are many failure modes in holography: motion, air currents, etc. For dcg, you're making your own emulsion, so you have to multiply the failure...

Re: holographyforum IRC channel?

This forum has a long history, that's why it uses quite old school backend. The best property of this forum is exactly THE history - almost everything concerning holography has been discussed here, and you can still find it here. I am not sure if it is possible to make e.g. reddit holography corner...

Re: holographyforum IRC channel?

So, Bob, when you're not using it to make holograms, perhaps you can cook with it. Great for rare steaks; burns the outside without even warming the inside!

Re: Introductions

i was eventually lead to the work of david bohm, a proponent of the holographic universe theory who was a protege of einstein. i ordered his book "wholeness and the implicate order" as a teen, and even though much of it went over my head, what didn't really stuck with me. if nothing else,...

Re: where do you guys get small glass plates?

i've been looking for small glass plates to practice with. i was only able to find standard microscope slides, but i would like something larger -- maybe 2x2" or 2x3" if i could order them in bulk from china that would be ideal. thanks! Talk to Integraf http://www.integraf.com/shop/hologr...
