Re: D.I.Y. holographic photopolymer

I have worked with pva in both silver and dichromate , its sounds like the speed ball (DIAZO sensitizer) is acting like a crosslinker, I've wanted to try this too, if it is a crosslinker in your pva you should see a weak image shortly after exposer with no processing (just like dcgpva) you could al...

Re: D.I.Y. holographic photopolymer

Sounds pretty interesting. So did I get it right, your PVA + Speedball layer becomes water resistent after the holographic exposure? If so, you might process the layer à la DCG - water bath + IPA dehydration. For bleaching you might try potassium permanganate. It worked nicely with D.A.S. gelatin. ...

Re: D.I.Y. holographic photopolymer

After reducing amount of sensitizer i've obtained some weak diffraction patterns from PVA + speedball sensitizer with transmission hologram copy, but it is really bad quality - i barely see some edges of shiny objects. Looks promising still (i like its simple developing process - just few minutes in...

Re: Ferric ammonium oxalate tests

I've encountered this kind of problem many times. I thought it was due to a defective coating or a layer of insufficient thickness. I think it may be because easy to over/under-exposure FEG emulsion as it tends to get milkyness in underexposed and big UV-shift in overexposed areas. So, even small d...

Re: Ferric ammonium oxalate tests

Still getting only holographic spots, but not full slide. :( Looks like i'm quite close but not sure to what. I think it is coating problem but could be something else.

Re: Ferric ammonium oxalate tests

I know that chromates are to be avoided, but Jeff Blyth's formula (and the later Chinese formula for panchromatic DCG) require very little. My normal batches are 6 grams gelatin/47ml water. To this is added 0.5ml of a 5% solution of potassium chromate. From what I gather, these formulas work differ...

Re: Ferric ammonium oxalate tests

I've experimented for week with 0.5% FAC emulsion (non-hardened), looks like drying was one of my primary problems. Wasn't able to get almost anything with one day (passive airflow only) drying, but got some holographic areas with 2/3 days drying. Added fan to my drying box and got a hologram with j...

Re: Ferric ammonium oxalate tests

Regarding drying after coating (I noted your drying difficulties), I believe it's fairly standard practice to keep the gelatin surface under a gentle air flow (a fan) for a while after coating, overnight is good (around 60% ambient humidity is all I have experience with, though). I use one of my la...

Re: Ferric ammonium oxalate tests

Looks like i've ran into combination of three different problems: 1. RainX's leftovers (from mold coating) on emulsion - on last run i've noticed that water comes off plate very quickly on most of area. Washing in IPA does remove that effect, i think it can affect developing/hardening/swelling. 2. B...
