How long will LASERs be legal?

According to Russian rule (SanPiN 5804-91), any laser with more than approx. 5 mW optical power (a complex computation formula depending on wavelength but similar to the IIIa class limit) SHOULD have a keyswitch with removable key, a mechanical beam shutter that can be operated by hand and a light i...

set up of components - beams crossing??

I am trying to set up for split beam transmission and would like to split the object beam to illuminate the object from both left and right (to illuminate object from both sides). If this is done, however, one of the object beams would pass through the reference beam reaching the object. What will ...

Beam ratios

Not exactly. They're not related. The level of reference beam is "white level" of the hologram. For best results the reference beam should be as bright as the brightest light reflected from the object (and to be recorded - you may want to overexpose some small parts of the image to make ot...

Safety Goggles

I know people (not holographers) who got permament eye damages/serious injuries from 50 mW to 1 W CW lasers. It seems to be NOT uncommon.

Scenario was always about the same: got a narrow reflected beam into the eye while doing some alignment or adding an optical element to the beam path.

Safety Goggles

I have seen many pairs in their closets though. Probably purchased when they were starting out. I personally use goggles when I'm testing or aligning new (unfamiliar) equipment. Some older lens holders tend to be unstable during alignment (they're aligned diectly by hand) and may produce random bea...

Safety Goggles

One has to mention that using "wrong" goggles is worse than not wearing goggles at all. It is obvious that there are goggles for wrong wavelength or with low OD. Less obvious is that there are cheap goggles with TOO MUCH OD. They are dangerous if you're doing alignment because you cannot s...

Safety Goggles

Goggles are used to protect you from random reflections in case something falls out its place, you accidentally cross the beam with a reflecting screwdriver etc. They really help in such cases even if they aren't high quality; they may be burnt by the beam but they save you from accidental reflectio...

My suggestions. I moderated a large Russian forum at once. We have had the following rules: 1. Agression is prohibited. 2. Anything that is (or looks like it is) illegal is prohibited. 3. Mat is prohibited. 4. Advertisement is permitted only on specialized forum boards (like "marketplace")...

Их надо беречь. В них Сергей Петрович все еще с нами. Будем продолжать его дело общими усилиями.
