What is real color

Meh, I really don't care about CRI myself and I have a high flicker threshold ... apart from disliking the waste of integrated ballasts I think CFLs are fine. Any way ... my point about white point was that the hologram itself does not emit a smooth spectrum. A light with R/G/B leds at appropriate ...

What is real color

. I believe one problem in colour holography is the lack of a standardised source. The colour community have their D65's, but we holographers simply have an MR-something. I think to put colour holography on a more solid basis, a "standard illuminant" is needed for colour holograms which w...

3D with Holography Beside Leith & Upatnieks

Here's a paper I stumbled across this afternoon while looking for pictures of early lasers. It describes using Gabor type holography in two separated optical paths to provide a 3D view. Just wondering what Dinesh and others here think of it. I neglected to print off a copy, but the library where it ...

Plasmons harnessed for holograms

Now, how on earth can a paper written in 1965 have possibly used Kogelnik to determine an emulsion of "sufficient thickness"? In 1965, the equations used to determine this thickness didn't exist! I spoke with Juris Upatnieks this morning and asked him. He said they didn't need Kogelnik's ...

Plasmons harnessed for holograms

In the very early '60s, they were using Kodak technical pan film first and then Kodak 649F. It’s a rare occasion when I beg to differ with you, Bob my brother, but L & U couldn’t have used Kodak Technical Pan film since it didn’t come out until 1977. ... Other possibilities of film stock that w...

Plasmons harnessed for holograms

[ So, they say, colour was described (if not actually shot) in the mid-60's; colour would have created crosstalk; But multicolor images were made in 1965 with volume material (Kodak 649F), and without Kogelnik. See "Optical Holography" by Collier, Burckhardt & Lin for pictures of some...

Plasmons harnessed for holograms

In the very early '60s, they were using Kodak technical pan film first and then Kodak 649F. Those are both volume recording materials. I know that a transmission hologram on 649F will certainly show Bragg selectivity, and think tech pan will too. Being physicists, I'd imagine they'd have analyzed pl...

Plasmons harnessed for holograms

I remember the figure related to the multicolor procedure showed the three reference beams not in the same plane, but it's been a long time. Also, they did mention the volume requirements of Lippman recordings, so I'd imagine they would get the three reference beams as separated as possible. Remembe...

Plasmons harnessed for holograms

The L&U method was three recording planes at 120 degrees to each other too, if I remember correctly. I think that's necessary to get the images adequately off Bragg. Can't imagine getting the images to line up really well without good collimation on all three beams! Sounds like one hell of a fun...

Plasmons harnessed for holograms

Leith & Upatnieks proposed a three color scheme very early on in the '60s using three wavelengths to make a transmission full color image, with the three colors spatially separated to prevent crosstalk.
