Re: Understanding the principle

Yes. But keep in mind that analysis of interference from a drawing of a few wavefronts (here, circles) is quite limited. A better idea is to analyse the pattern in this way: We have two point sources (pinholes in the second screen). Light starting at these sources interferes. What happens at a parti...

Re: Ruby double-pulse fun

First of all, if you make the image smaller 10x in XY (lateral) directions, it gets 100x smaller in the Z (depth) direction. Instead of a smaller sphere you get mostly flat lens shape. I am not sure what may be the main reason for apparent depth of field reduction. First, if the large original is re...

Re: First Light with Integraf Kit

Building a table is a good idea. But before that, try building a Michelson interferometer in a sandbox or even on the floor. This could give you an idea how much isolation you really need. Green VRP-M plates by Slavich (distributed by Integraf in US) are OK. If you can afford them, try Ultimate from...

Re: First Light with Integraf Kit

Thanks! Any suggestions for the next incremental step? That is the big question. It all depends on your intent with holography. If you are interested in making display holograms, try a setup where the plate does not touch the object. It will make you think about stability and ease of use. If you ar...

Re: Little old Lady

Is it sensitive to angle of ilumination? A common AgX volume hologram (Denisyuk type) illuminated by white light changes its color as the illumination angle changes. It is thus very sensitive to illumination angle for laser illumination - it either reconstructs well, or does not reconstruct at all. ...

Re: Little old Lady

Is is a two colour single beam Denisyuk?
If it is, then it is impressive. With AgX it is difficult to reconstruct volume holograms with laser light.

Re: First Light with Integraf Kit

Congratulations! It seems you got over the very beginner's phase.
Now comes the hard part: to decide what to do next.

Re: PSA: SPIE Conference is this week, virtual, and free.

Thanks for posting. Unfortunately, nothing related to holography. But indeed, a lot of interesting stuff from other areas of optics.

Re: First Light with Integraf Kit

Good! If possible, try to cover the upper edge of the glass. If light gets through that edge inside the glass, you get those ugly horizontal strips crossing the upper coins. Covering that edge is even more important in hologram recording, otherwise those strips are permanently stored in the hologram.

Re: First Light with Integraf Kit

Well done.
You can make a box (say 12x12x12 cm) with black inside surface. Make a 6x6 cm hole in the center of one side. This hole to a black interior will be much darker than your black paper you use for the hologram background.
