Archives ready for download

Hello everyone,

HTML archives of holoforum and holographyforum are ready for download. The archives were optimised for compactness and easy navigation. Compact means that the holographyforums 45'000 posts are packed into 11.5MB and the new forum fits into 0.3MB. Now you can have the compressed knowledge of the community in your pocket device.

Probably a stupid question, but what do we use to open and search these archives on our local computers?

.tgz = tar gzip

You can use whatever tools your system provides to unpack gzipped tar files. The result is a directory which contains the data files and one index.html file. The index.html file can be opened in any html browser to access the contents of the archive.

The functionality is what you see on the test page.

Javascript is used. The archives are system independent.

For Windows I had to rename the extension from .tz to .tgz and extract with winzip.

I don't understand, the extension of the files is tgz already, why did you have to rename them?

Weird... My Holographyforum down load has the extension .gz

Here's a copy and paste of the filename...

holographyforum_archive-v0.01-13112011.gz

Changed filename to .tgz and opened with Winzip... all's well

You are welcome. An updated version of the files is available, with some errors corrected.

The holoforum archive file will be updated daily, starting soon. If anybody would like to host the files, please contact me.

I have noticed three problems in the first files. The names of the posters has been replaced by "anonomous". The BBtags don't resolve very well. [quote] perhaps could resolve to bold? And the pictures don't resolve and niether do the youtube bbcodes. Were any of these things fixed in the second files?

What a great effort! I can't believe you got that together so fast!

OK, I just looked. The names were resolved and that is much better. Thank you.

The pictures seem to be deleted.
