OK, I migrated the HoloWiki to a VPS. I needed shell access inorder to get php 5 and run the latest MediaWiki so I am moving all of the web sites I run onto the VPS.

Have been moved. I am still configuring the new MediaWiki software. WikiDrops now works as it needed a newer version of php to run. I am also looking into linking the forum's login to the wiki's login. Since I use dedicated servers for the databases I am not sure if I will be able to. The code I have found assumes that everything is on one server not 4! I plan to keep the databases on a seperate servers until we have enough traffic that we can have our own rack. We are serving about 1.5 million pages per year now.
The new version of MediaWiki does not like the old splash page with the lasers hitting the light bulb. I really like it. If anyone can help me to figure out how to do it again I would appreciate it. I have the old code but instead of allowing the span tages to hide the image link it parses the link as an external link. I have not looked into it at all.

I should have math support ready for the HoloWiki soon and when it is time to migrate the forum to the new server I plan to have math support for the forum as well. I will move the forum last as I need to know everything is in place and buttoned up.
Then I will write a report "What I did on my vacation."

I had to take down my paypal account as they would not update my credit card and I have not made a new one. I would still take a donation. 
I am spending about $40 a month now but as soon as I get rid of the old phpBB2 database I will save $5 per month. I am just keeping it as a place to experiment right now.
I do this for the love of holography. I am pretty lucky over the years I have been given about 30 holograms, around $500, a Fresnel Rhomb, a 20 mw HeNe laser and lots of film. I can't complain. I spend about 30 minutes a day on avarage and right now I will have about 40 hours into the migration.
What I would really love is more pictures for the wiki. I would love some pictures of specific optics, mounts, any photos of sand tables and mounts would be great. I don't want to see sand tables disappear because people don't know how great they are.

I just tried a search of the Wiki and found it down for maintenance. I was wondering if you had archived any of the sites on Scratch Holograms. If not, I could supply them, assuming they are still up. If you are not familiar with this idea, hand drawn scratches can generate (fairly simple) 3-d images. A version of this effect can be seen (unintentionally) in wheel-buffed stainless steel surfaces. The sculpture of David Smith, from the 60s and 70s, much of which is on display at Storm KIng in New York, showed this effect. It is also visible in the elevator walls of the building my wife's office is in in SF. You stare at it and the surface pops!

The sculpture of David Smith, from the 60s and 70s, much of which is on display at Storm KIng in New York, showed this effect. It is also visible in the elevator walls of the building my wife's office is in in SF. You stare at it and the surface pops!
