Holo Show In the Boonies

I just found out about this today! Any forum members live within a hundred miles of here?

WEST BRANCH, IA. - A major exhibition of 18 innovative holograms from the United States and Europe will be on view at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum beginning January 13, 2007 and continuing through March 24, 2007 . “Holography: History in a New Light” will feature outstanding works by leaders in the field of fine art holography.

Holography is a unique recording technology, similar to a form of three-dimensional photography, which uses light and laser beams to create images so real they seem to float in space. These three-dimensional images are recorded on photographic film but occur in several different formats. The Hoover exhibition will display examples of each of the major types of holograms.

As a special feature on opening day January 13, Professor Douglas Tyler of St. Mary's College of Notre Dame in Indiana will conduct a free 90 minute demonstration at 2:00 in the Herbert Hoover auditorium on the art and technology of holography. “The potential uses of holography are enormous,” says Tyler, “Holography offers great hope as a major means of information storage, as a means to test various industrial products, and may be used in the future in automobiles, airplanes and other transportation vehicles.” Tyler will create a hologram as part of the program which will run from 2 to 3:30 pm .

Among the many special works in the exhibition are an animated holographic image of William Shakespeare in which a life-size image of Shakespeare actually moves and appears to speak. In another image by artist Jeffrey Robb entitled “Mona Vinci” the image of Leonardo's Mona Lisa slowly morphs/transforms into a portrait of Leonardo himself. These and many other stunning visual experiences are sure to captivate the eye of visitors to the exhibition.

"Holography is one of the most exciting technologies developing today," notes Marcus Eckhardt, Exhibit Specialist at the Hoover Museum . "It's also important to note that holography is a very American art form that was first developed in the early 1960's at the University of Michigan ".

The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum is one of twelve presidential libraries operated by the National Archives and Records Administration and is located in historic West Branch at Exit 254 off Interstate 80. The museum is open every day from 9 am to 5 pm . For more information, call 319-643-5301.
