Just a reminder of what things were like way back when.

I built a Sinclair ZX-80. Then when the Apple IIc came out I was working as a level I service tech. I don't miss them at all. Or for that matter the PDP-11s. If I never have to use TECO again I will die happy.

Isn't it weird how we have such strong emotional / sentimental reactions to seeing photos of those old machines? I wonder if it's because of our age at the time or what...

For me, I am more attached to my HP-41. I don't ever use it anymore as calculators have passed it by but I am very sentimental about it. I think I paid $600 for it!
Anymore I use a HP-49 or a TI-89 if I am not looking for RPN.

Colin, I have an HP 41CV with a card reader. I still have my lens design and holography ray tracing programs on them. Like you I never use it but would not part with it for anything. And I still have trouble using a normal calculator. Reverse Polish is the only way!!

My oldest calculator, is a TI-1200. It has only +,-,x,/, and %, and 7 segment LEDs, each behind its own lens to magnify it. From 1970? Oldest computer is a 286 on DOS.
Oldest laser is the '62 Hughes ruby system, but I also have a '63 Spectra Physics/Perkin Elmer Model 111 He-Ne head, a Holosonics plasma tube, and a few very old Liconix He-Cd plasma tubes. Hang on to those old glass lasers everybody! They make classy displays as antiques.
Oldest bike is a '69 Raleigh Superbe, with generator in the front hub lighting system and locking fork (and I have the key!). A classy ride for supermarket runs or Critical Mass in San Francisco.
