I'm wondering something about thermoplastic holographic plates ... I don't quite understand why they have to rely on corona charging.
Why can't the voltage be applied by simply metallizing the thermoplastic and connecting a DC voltage to that layer and the ITO layer on the glass directly? So you'd have a stack of glass-ITO-photoconductor-thermoplastic-metal, you'd apply the voltage and flood it with light, then ground the ITO layer and record the fringe, then heat it to develop.
I guess it doesn't work, but why not?
A question about photoconductivity
