That's pretty.

Is it another full-color? Did you use a printed bmp as the subject or an LCD screen?

Is that a 2D hologram or a 2D printout?

If someone says it can't be done but they haven't tried it, don't believe them.

Very nice colors. So, you made a hologram from a printed out fractal or through an LCD screen? Is it 2-D or does it have depth?

I was more or less thinking about making a fractal 3-D by using a method of moving the plate while using a specific iris design and a matching reflective mirror. Basically, let's say a triangle beam for the reference and object beam. This would expose a very tiny area of the plate. Then the plate would be moved in the x and/or y and/or z and/or rotational direction with another exposure. The movement of the plate would be controlled by a computer on an x,y,z stepper motor with rotational driven stage. It is only a thought experiment now as I do not have that type of equipment. But what I see is let's say we do a single triangle. Then take the plate and rotate it by 30 degrees, move it a couple of mm further away from the reflective (object)mirror and in the x direction. Do an exposure, then rotate it another 30 degrees, move it a couple of mm away from the reflective mirror and in the x direction again. Repeat this. What you should get is a helical triangular object. This entire helical or spiral set of triangles would be one leg of a large triangle which if you continue to draw a larger triangle which in turn would constitute the first triangle of a large spiral set of triangles. And so on. I think this would yield a very simple fractal. Sorry, I cannot draw this but I can see it.

Yes, I know what you mean. We did this at ABNH. There's also a holography method known as e-beam holography that looks a lot like the fractal idea, except it's not a true fractal. In order to simulate that idea, we rotated the plate, moved it, etc.
So, yes, it was done about '96 or '97.
By the way, there's also kinograms which are very similar. The first papers on those were mid-60's.
A lot of these techniques keep being re-invented! I was trying to simulate the chaotic sense of a fractal in light by making light behave in a chaotic manner through fractal geometry.

It was done on dot matrix. I made the BMP and transferred it to a dot matrix that I believe I set at 100 dpi. This is a sort of "automatic hologram maker" that takes in a digital image and converts color data to diffraction plane data (http://www.nli-ltd.com/products/dot_mat ... g/main.htm)

Dinesh, When did you shot this hologram?
