Hi,

with what are you trying to coat the plate? Dichromated gelatine?

I did this several years ago with quite good result. Let me know if you like to know how I did it

I use window glass and I don't see much oil. The easiest way to get rid of oil is to soak it in ammonia for a while.

I let my glass, either new or old holographic plates set in a solution of 4% hydrochloric acid over night. I then scrub them with a plastic dish scrubbie not steal wool but a plastic wool. Then I rinse them in running water. I then put them in straight household bleach for a few minutes. Then I rub them with a rag in the bleach. I then rinse them in running water again. I take them out and lean them to dry but I do not let them dry all the way. I then take them and use a Bounty quilted paper towel to dry them the rest of the way. They come out great and I have neve had a problem with the emulsion sticking to the plate.
