Thanks Colin for pointing to the copyright issue  - and sorry I didn't write my introduction in time. Some notes:

My apologies for the poor quality of the scans. Most of them were based on Xerox copies from not-so-well-preserved originals.

Joe has done a terrific job of detective work at the library, digging out a great many very important papers. Yves Gentet sent me a few additional copies. Thank you both of you! Given the relative rareness of publications about Lippmann photography, most of the texts here have become bibliophilic rarities for one or another reason.

In my view the classic period of Lippmann photography covers the years 1891 - 1907. It ends when the Lumière brothers started marketing the Autochrome process. So with regards to the texts here, that time frame may have to be kept in mind. Hence the texts by Ives and Cajal (another Nobel prize winner by the way) are rather late. From a holographer's prospective, interested in color holography, they may be particularly important since they address the problem of white(s).

Despite a short period when a German company named Kranseder commercialized Lippmann plates, the availability of those emulsions remained a major challenge. No surprise then most papers extensively explain the making of such emulsions.

Berthier's Manuel de photochromie interférentielle is probably the most complete text on Lippmann photography I've seen.

Jean just pointed out a problem with the links. I'll work on them and update the index page...

OK, I think I have fixed the broken links. Please post here if there are some more.

Copyright is a non-issue for papers published before 1923. They are unconditionally public domain.

Thanks for the link. So I won't be able to put Leroy (1929) online? :(

Or, may there be some legal loophole?

I am willing to post it on my personal web site, let me know if it is not there and you have uploaded it. I think this field is so small that know one will mind.

If we can revive it then we have really acomplished something.

This would be in the "published from 1923-63" region, in which the work is public domain unless it was published with a copyright notice (for 28 years coverage) AND was later renewed by the owner for an additional 68 years coverage.

I think it extremely unlikely that it is not public domain by now.

OK. I am preparing a new package with small articles, mostly taken from the Comptes rendus des séances de l'académie des sciences. Those files were downloaded from Gallica (Bibliothèque Nationale), a couple of years ago, when there was no high-speed Internet connection yet (at least not at my home). Those files were rather difficult to track down and may lack some bibliographic details. If I'll find time to do this I may give an update.

By the way, I am a bit uncertain whether to include some of Lippmann's research, unrelated to Lippmann photography - e.g. things like integral photography, astronomy etc.

OK, noted.
