A Cautionary Tale

Post by Dutchelm05 »

I have been shooting a object (in DCG) that was made of brass.
For over a week now I had problems with movement.
I tryed all the standard methods of boxing it for air currents, glueing and reglueing, place the plate right on top of the object, adding hard resin to the back of the object to strenghten it and after ten shots, only had two that did not move. It was driving crazy. The only thing left was room temperature. These last few weeks we have had cooler temps and I would warm my room to like 80F from being in the low 60's for like a 1/2 to an hour. I read some information about brass and it has a high temp coefficient in the order of .8u/C.
So far a longer soak time seems to be working.
As we enter the winter months something to keep in mind.

A Cautionary Tale

Hey Tony, I always tried to never heat or cool the table room unless I have shot DCG in the 60's with no problem. In fact my third world basement stays about 62 - 68 year round, 62 in winter, 68 in summer. When I was out in the garage and having that 3/8 thick piece of steel for my table top, i would heat the room to working temp for a few hours before shooting to insure all temps stablize.

Excellent point though, thanks for sharing.
