How to use Phillips' Ferric EDTA - agitation or not?

Post by Viking »

Hi there holographers

I am going to use TJ1 and Phillips' Ferric EDTA on PFG-01. My question is wether I should agitate the film when using this bleach or should I leave it perfectly still? Also shall I bleach till just clear or clear plus 30sec or something like that?

There was a time when Nick was preaching slow bleaching for a long time with no agitation. But this would waste abut 20 minutes of your time. Agitation in photo-chemistry is used to remove by-products of a reaction and move in fresh chemistry. The slow non-agitation method was prompted by the thought that things are migrating in the emulsion, so it's best not to disturb them. But I never saw any difference in brightness, streaks, etc. Maybe don't agitate constantly like in a developer, but every once in a while just to get fresh supplies into the emulsion and the by-products out.
