Question about TJ-1 formula

Hi everybody

The TJ-1 formula uses sodium carbonate anhydrous. Is this washing soda? (It is the 'anhydrous' part that's confusing me).

Yes, it is washing soda. You could probably get away with using grocery store grade of even cheaper at swimming pool stores! It's used to balance the pH of the pool.

Chemical store grade comes in anhydrous and monohydrated. Check out his link for conversion: http://www.apug.org/forums/forum37/4163 ... drous.html

Is the TJ-1 the "Pyrochrome" developer? see http://www.holographyforum.org/files/pyroab.htm for details)

Question about TJ-1 formula

Hi Ed

Thanks a lot for your reply. After googleing around for the 'anhydrous' term I got worried that it was a totally different chemical. Thanks for clearing it up for me. I see from the link you gave me that I just need to use 20% more when it is not anhydrous. Simple enough.
And no, TJ-1 is not pyrochrome.
TJ-1 recipe:
Part A:
6g Metol
40g. Ascorbic acid
Part B:
100g sodium carbonate anhydrous
30g sodium hydroxide

I found this one on the Wiki
