Angles

I have read on a couple of forums how people put the plate, I'm guessing at certain angles...how does this affect the results? I know to view they have to be at the same angle but does exposing them at a certain angle help?

You can expose at any angles but they all have compromises. Research edge lit for example. Also Brewster's Angle.

See for example here:

Internal reflections in glass plates cause ugly streaks and lines in holograms. Using this lighting angle with the correct polarization can help to minimize them.
