Hi -

The segments that comprise Class 2 (of 3) on "autostereoscopic displays" are now up on YouTube. I talk about stereoscopy, lenticular displays, parallax barrier displays, volumetric, electro-holographic, etc.

The segments start here: http://www.youtube.com/user/opticsforhi ... GtbRhJsl3U.

Thanks for the feedback, by the way. We hopefully succeeded in removing the one-slide transition duplicates.

ps It is with some trepidation that I say anything at all about holography in front of this audience (you). This is for electronic display holography, not film holography.

And, at long last, the 3 classes are complete. You can find a playlist here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... E34CD99DEB.

It was fun recording these and I hope a useful way to share some knowledge.

Thank you! Nice survey.

Skeptics about the technological challenges to be overcome should reflect on the development of color TV which required several major advances in video system design and manufacturing technology, comparable to the effort and expense required for the Apollo moon landings. The question being whether 3D is addictive enough to compel a similar effort. I think it unlikely at present with current small displays, the effect of which seems to amount to a blurry puppet show. We need a wall-to-wall Ray Bradbury Veldt experience http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Veldt . It's a nice story - quite Ballardian.

Nasty green text full version of story for scholarly purposes only, you understand: http://www.veddma.com/veddma/Veldt.htm
