Emulsions and developers

Post by alan.bogana »

Hi,

Did anyone ever tried to develop emulsions (PFG-01 or VRP-M, red and green sensitive) from Slavich/Geola with the developing kit from Integraf (or viceversa). The "names" of the emulsions are the same, but they propose different set of developers chemicals (with a bit different chemical compounds as well).
I have a JD-2 kit set of developing chemicals ready to be used and I'm going to try to develop some test emulsions (red sensitive from Integraf and green sensitive from Geola) with the same chemicals and I wanted to know if any of you already did the experience (also because I'm going to use a new 532nm laser and if things doesn't turn out at least I will know where the problem is without starting the kit of chemicals from Geola).
Best regards

If I recall, the JD-2 kit uses the CWC2 developer formula but the Pyrochrome bleach. This results in shrinkage of the emulsion translating into shorter wavelength reconstruction when doing Single Beam Reflection. Check these out: http://edweslystudio.com/Formulae/Developers/CWC2.html and http://edweslystudio.com/Formulae/Developers/PYROAB.pdf

I have tried CWC2 with 'Chrome bleach on PFG-01 and you can get orange and green replay starting with the red. Results are somewhere in here: http://edweslystudio.com/Formulae/HoloC ... nsRepG.htm and maybe even here: http://edweslystudio.com/Research/AllHologramsF12.pdf

The only experience that I have ever had with VRP-M was in transmission mode with Nick's #6 Developer http://edweslystudio.com/Formulae/Devel ... ksNo6.htmland a Fe EDTA bleach http://edweslystudio.com/Formulae/Bleac ... eEDTA.html. Using the JD-2 kit will probably give you aqua to blue replays, which might be not so bright.

The bleach in the JD-2 kit can be converted into the rehalogenating type by the addition of potassium bromide. http://edweslystudio.com/Formulae/Bleac ... leach.html You can mix the bleach up as it comes in the kit, take some of it, like a half liter, add a half liter of H20 and 30 g of KBr and you will have a non-shrinking bleach.

You may have to run some tests to find the best exposure and development times, check this out again: http://edweslystudio.com/Pedagogy/TS/Te ... meset.html

Have fun!

Brilliant!

Thank you very much for the generous answer.Very interesting material. I'll do some tests and explore a bit further.
Cheers

Hi.

Results using Geola Plates with JD-2 Integraf developer, using a CNI SLM 100mW 532nm laser turned out good!
Doing another session this week.

Cheers
