SLM Lasers for hologrpaphy

Post by ooleg »

Hi!
Could you tell me if "frequency-stabilized" laser is necessary for holography? Is it possible to work with the SLM laser of coherence length > 50 meters and power stability < 5%? There are many expensive modern lasers - but are they really necessary?

Do you think these 4 lasers are suitable for holography?

2. http://cnilaser.com/MSL-S-532.htm
3. http://cnilaser.com/MSL-FN-532.htm
4. http://www.coherent.com/download/7781/S ... -Sheet.pdf

Thanks!

Hello,
Yes it is essential to use long coherence length lasers for holography. Without special design considerations diode pumped solid state lasers can have very short coherence lengths....millimeters. For green try Coherent 215M or 315M. For blue some Coherent Sapphire OPSL are single frequench (SLM). The newer SLM versions are expensive and never yet seen used so thank $12,000 or more depending on power.

The CNI SLM lasers may be OK but I am skeptical they will continue to be SLM and hold power for a long term. Even their regular light show lasers don't last that long really so I can't recommend them. If anyone has had good results with one for more than a year please post.

Sam Gioldwasser and I have many good SLM lasers for holography. We have a low hour 100 mW SLM Sapphire 488 available. Send me a private message if interested as this is not the for sale page here. Best wishes, Phil :)
