The first use of a hologram on a magazine cover was on "Amateur Photography" of June, 1983. Titled "Crystal Creations", it shows a model of the earth in a geometrical structure, centered in a void in a graphical background. The image was mastered by Ken Harris, with production by Advanced Holographics Ltd. Inside is a wonderfull article, full of pictures, about holography at the time and the making of this hologram. I've included a pic of the credits with that of my copy below.
The embossed holograms were made as stickers, and my copy has one that was applied upside down. One can tell by the fact Africa is upside down, but the colors are obviously also really messed up because of the resulting incorrect illumination from the top. For the picture here, I illuminated the cover hologram from below. I wonder how many were misapplied?
