Edge Lit
Anybody have good results doing edge lit? I know Dinesh has worked with it. I don't want to waste too much material and time if it will just lead to a dead end. Thanks.
Re: Edge Lit
John,
This is the best we've got. The biggest challenge is to launch the light through the edge. If you use commercial silver halide, you need to back it with a glass slab and launch into the slab because the plate is fairly thin.

Re: Edge Lit
I think I'll suspend trying real edge lit for a while, just stick with near grazing angle. I did get a decent cave hologram with a reference at 80 degrees off axis. I hope to try again New Year's weekend with a multi mode fiber reference also at 80 degrees.

Re: Edge Lit
I remember people using a tapered glass wedge as a way to add thickness. I can't imagine grinding this piece. Is anyone still doing this?

Super cool! What a cute idea do you think this will work?http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/201418321224

This is acrylic. But, yes, it can be done holographically. The colour is a bit of an issue. We are actually right now working on a full colour, edge lit holo.
