Can fused silica plates be cut with an ordinary wheel cutter like glass?

I've found diamond necessary for borosilicate (a carbide wheel not sufficient) so I assume it's needed for anything harder. Simple diamond glass cutters aren't expensive, or diamond scribes may also work. A good scratch needs to be made.
