Diffuser Question

Post by Tony DCG »

Greetings all
So happy to see the old forum back
I have a question regarding diffusers and lasers.
I have a red laser pointer I use to illuminate a transmission hologram I bought recently. But the pointer has dust boogers and some rings. When illuminating the hologram it's a bit distracting. I've tried using various Thor labs diffusers of various grit sizes and some beam shaping plastic sheets that Bob H turned me on to. They remove all the defects but all seem to attenuate the light a bit too much.
Does anyone know of a very light diffuser I can buy or better yet a DIY diffuser?
Maybe light sand blasted glass?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I made my own diffuser by using a glass etching solution from a stained glass store. It's a liquid you pour into a developing tray, or any other tray, and place the glass in it. The amount of time in the liquid determines how diffuse the glass becomes. The important thing is to keep rocking it, otherwise you get uneven diffusing.

This may seem a bit odd but you can use a small clean slice of a hot glue stick it does work, and works nice for object light too.

Thanks Danny

I will give it a try.
I am guessing a thin slice with a razor blade will do the trick.

Good to hear from you
