History of holography

Post by Sean »

Since March 2002, an extensive research project at the University of Glasgow, UK has been gathering information for a comprehensive history of holography and holographers. Although some 40,000 papers, art exhibitions, books and patents have appeared on the subject of holography, many records remain hidden either in the form of memories or personal collections of papers. Moreover, some communities of holographers – notably artists and amateur enthusiasts – have published relatively little. To preserve this ephemeral history, the project is recording oral histories, and examining private archives as well as analyzing the published literature. Some 80 persons and a dozen institutions have already contributed their time, documents or perspectives to this study. If you have had personal involvement in this history -- particularly in the former Soviet Union or far East -- please contact
