Tony,
Thanks for getting back to me. I love the questions you have asked and I really want to think about it and write really good answers. I have to go out of town tonight for a couple days, but when I get back I am going to answer those questions the best I can. As far as "Can you help us here on the forum if we wish to get some artist direction? I.e comment on the gallery (were we post our holograms and offer suggestions and ideas." the answer to that is an enthusiastic Yes! I would be very happy to do that. Thank you for asking.
Let's talk in a couple days
best wishes,
DN

after seeing some of his art work, i directed him to Synfography web site, http://www.geola.lt/show.php?lang=eng&c ... index_left which i think would be best for his type of art work and that he could work on a computer to give it depth and seperations, and cut his cost by eliminating the middle man and go direct to production printing by Geola Digital , nice artwork it will make a nice wall size hologram :D

Hello everyone,
I'm back home so now to answer those questions.
1. "What can holography help you convey as far as artist expression?"
For me personnaly, I need to take abstract art to a new level, to get beyond where I've already gone with it. Really get way out there and create something new and different. A hologram that no-one has done before as far as subject matter. (see question 2) I'm hell bent on a revival of new and maybe even better fine art holography. I am convinced that it could be taken quite seriously as fine art if enough artists and holographers would collaberate. I know this has been tried before and failed somewhat, and I actually know why it failed, The art was beautiful, but the business part of it was the problem back then. That was then, stuff happened, and now here we are. Let's do something about it and get it all right this time. Do we really want holography to be reduced to just security and cheesy advertising? Come on you guys, lets make some ART. Fine art that belongs in museums. You guys work very hard at this and your work should be recognised as art. It makes it more important and valuable. That's my oppinion.

2."What do you see lacking as far as art in holograms you have seen?"
Sorry if this part offends anyone, but how many more holo's of coins and clock parts, and store bought statues do I want to see? It's a great exercise in holography for sure, and being into all things holographic I love even those, but I want to see more original work, more collaberation between artists and holographers. New and more exciting things.
You guys can call me the fool who thinks he can help save the medium of fine art holography if you want. I believe it can be done.
With that said please believe me when I say I respect all of your work. All of you. You guys rule. If it is to be taken seriously as a fine art form, we (artists and holographers) need to start working together.
I know I can't be the only one who cares.

Amen :D
a very timely word which everyone need to take to heart if holographys going to leave the cave to the fine art Museum. Rather that hidding in our caves, and covering our hand over our toys hoping no one sees our magic at work least they steal our magic wand, then as we get gray with all our rock holograms on the shelf we die like lonely men, never learning it takes a village to really make a mark....and so holography sleeps again....for a new generation to discover! hopefully to live again!

with deep passion i hope the above words never come true

You and I are in the same boat. I think it will happen. It takes time. There are some great holographers here. Most of us are working on small holograms but many are working in larger formats.

This is essentially a technical forum, with a few artists participating as they hone their craft, but mostly hobbiests enjoying the process of making holograms. The process of building and mounting equipment, bouncing light beams off mirrors and through lenses, aiming and aligning the beams, preparing materials from scratch (as photographers did 150 years ago), watching the magic happen as the material's processed, seeing that first flash of rainbow colors while in the final wash telling you it may be a keeper, and watching the image appear as the warm air dries it. It's addicting to those so inclined. :o :? :D

Unless you're so inclined, I'd recommend finding someone who is to work with. You should talk with Al Razutis, a West coast artist/holographer doing what you want to do. Another would be Nancy Gorglione in Sebastopol, CA. They can give you a taste of what you're in for.

Sorry to bother you folks,
I must say thanks for all your replies and advice. Unfortunatley it appears as no-one actually wants to collaberate. I can only hope it's because you don't care for my style of art and maybe you can find some other artists to work with who's work you do like. Thanks Danny-I'm going to look into the geola thing and get a copy of maya or3dsmax and see if I can do it by myself.
Aslo thanks to Joe, dutchelm, and colin for their advice, and everybody who pm'd or emailed me. Best wishes always and keep making awesome holos.
