I had a look at your work (an image, on the internet) and gather that color is an important part of it. In holography, color pretty much goes out the window, unless a person gets really, really serious. (I'm talking about artistic use of color.) Also, painting is in general done on a flat surface, so there is nothing to be gained in that respect by using holography. So I think you would be far better off staying with painting. Also: when holograms get big, say over 8 by 10 inches, things will also get more complicated. You seem to prefer working on a large scale, and I think you would be very disappointed in this respect concerning holography.

If you were doing sculpture, and were willing to work on a small scale, then things would be different. (The subject of small versus large has come up on this forum before, I'm of the view that if something is small, you move close, and if it's big, you move away.) Sorry if this doesn't fit in with what you had in mind, but I'm trying to give you my honest views on the subject.

I appreciate your thoughts very much. I do know how to make a sculpture based on my paintings, and being abstact, approximate color is fine. Also although i am somewhat known for my large scale works, i work in regular sizes all the time. thanks for your honest views. :D

I must say thanks for all your replies and advice. Unfortunatley it appears as no-one actually wants to collaberate. I can only hope it's because you don't care for my style of art and maybe you can find some other artists to work with who's work you do like. Thanks Danny-I'm going to look into the geola thing and get a copy of maya or3dsmax and see if I can do it by myself.
Aslo thanks to Joe, dutchelm, and colin for their advice, and everybody who pm'd or emailed me. Best wishes always and keep making awesome holos.
DN
maya or 3dsmax is the best, and the file will work for geola , start thinking in 3d space and over laping colors

Around 1989 (give or take a year?) I attended a showing at Northwestern University by Douglas Tyler. I think he was (and still may be) a professor of art at St. Mary's College in South Bend, Indiana. The holograms he showed were very similar to what you describe. Perhaps you could try contacting him. I don't know if he still makes holograms, maybe someone on this forum knows.

Did anyone else attend that showing at Northwestern? Emmett Leith was there, and gave a nice presentation about his work in holography.

Hi,
I was taught Holography by Dan Schweitzer and Sam Morree at the NY school of Holography in 1976 (Rudy Berkhart was a fellow student)

I built and ran Laser Picture Studio 1979-1989 until misfortune caused its closure. at the studios Crown Court Trial (of 2 studio hangers on who brought illegal chemicals there behind my back), Nick Phillips said it was the best home built studio and equipment that he had ever seen.

I am currently looking for a helper / apprentice / partner-Artist/Holographer, to help me get it up and running again. It has lain dormant for 20yrs and is a bit rusty. There is a room at my nearby flat for a live in accomplice.

This is not an overnight job.

Location .. Near Ascot Berkshire UK.

I will list this opportunity in the job section with more detail soon.

I offer no form of financial payment, but do offer free board and the ongoing opportunity to share in the use of my well equip facility.

I paid my dues making plate and film Holograms for sale at the first British exhibitions and Galleries and on through the 80's till 89.

My future interest is in Holograms of subject matter that can not exist outside of the Hologram reconstructed image, (impossible in normal space)

My current project concerns the Hologram in virtual space specifically at the market place "eBay" and is detailed elsewhere on this forum.

Your post sounds interesting please contact me if this is of any interest to you.

Hey all you awesome holographers!!! Come talk with me and others about art and holography- anything to do with art on my website www.petersmolenski.com at 9:00 eastern USA time this Sunday night. I'm going to try and make it a weekly thing called LIVE ART TALK. I wish some of you guys would come by- I'm still upset that holography is now pretty much security stuff and aweful kids toy packaging. LET"S TALK LIVE ABOUT FINE ART HOLOGRAPHY!!!! It could happen, and for real this time-if artists and holographers would actually work together.
Come talk to me live about this and anything else related to art.
YOU'RE ALL INVITED :D :) :o  :? 8)    :!: :?:

Ok you guys- I'm afraid I give up on the hope that any of you besides Jon brodel want to communicate or collaberate with artists- Thanks for coming to the live art talk Jon. Ronald Mallory was there talking about making art holos again also.(Curator of C_Project) Take a look at his resume at www.ronaldmallory.com You will be blown away. When people like Ron are interested in collaberating (and me as well) and no-one from here shows up- I guess maybe fine art holography is dead, and you guys are willing to let it die. How horribly dissapointing. If I could get to England, Mr. Brodel and myself would be making amazing fine art holos despite everyone's else's lack of enthusiasm. At least we keep the discussion alive even if we are so far apart. Jon is a genious and I dare say you all could learn a thing or two from him about many important things.
If your not all completley dead in the water as far as fine art holos go- SHOW UP THIS SUNDAY AND LET'S MAKE SOME SHT HAPPEN-
Love and kisses

Defiant Nun,
Sorry you feel that way it would have been good to have had an artist on hand.
I had sent you a holo of some coins some months ago, I assumed that you didn't like it much since I did not hear from you but that attempt was made. I think your being a little heavy but that is your preparative.
Best of luck to you and hope you can make it happen
Tony

Tony,
I never recieved any hologram from you. Where did you send it to? I swear to god I never got it. I would have loved to see it and thanks, but I never recieved any hologram. Damn! I really would have loved to see your work. If I seem "a little heavy" it's because I'm deeply saddened by what's happening in holography right now and really want to change it but almost no-one is even interested and I can't do it by myself. It's a shame all you guys hard work and talent is being wasted in my oppinion. How can the sad state of holography change if we don't all work together? I don't mean to sound like a prick, just trying to motivate. call me anytime if you would like to talk in depth or stop by my website this sunday 9pm eastern us time. I'll send you a print of my art if you like for attempting to send me that holo.
Thanks for the reply.
NUN

Very cool- Tony and I are exchanging some art and hope to work together in the future- Where's the rest of you guys? Let's make some fine art holos! I know plenty of amazing artists who would love to collaberate with you all.
If we work together I am sure I could get us a major gallery or museum show as I have some crazy contacts.
C'mon it'l be fun- I promise!!
