Troubleshooting : emulsion peeling off

Post by thycore »

Hi guys !

Over the last 3 years I continued my learning of holography & related stuff, today, I encountered an issue for the first time ever, it seems the emulsion is pealing off the glass right after first soaking in developer :

Any idea what's wrong ? is my developer too much concentrated or something ? never seen this yet :(

Meanwhile I got an answer from manufacturer !
I was bad luck in process the glass plate had an issue during coating ! Fresh & clean are being re-shipped :)

Use GP-2, maybe this will help.
Who is the manufacturer of photographic plates?

I got confirmation by manufacturer it was a problem during coating ( the prepared & cleaned glass waited too long before coating ) : ultimate holography

A new batch is coming in replacement, m. Gentet was really quick and helpful in his support :)

I’ll try GP2 to compare the difference with D19

Can we really « not » bleach a hologram ??
I thought light would not penetrate the braggs structure and would not play back as 3d image ?

I use GP-2 always without bleaching.
The exception is if you need to make a hologram of a transmissive for 532 and 488 nm
Good luck

All these holograms are made in GP-2 without bleaching !!

This poor drawing of mine represents my current understanding of the chemistry and over-time phenomena :

There are 2 assumptions that I might have misconception about :

- Isn't light supposed to bounce off the deeper layers of the emulsion to reconstructs the virtual image ? I mean, if there is some black-silver on the way, light would rather probably get absorbed instead of continuing through and bouncing later ?
- Isn't my "not bleached" hologram be still sensitive to light at some point ? I mean, if Silver is not removed from the emulsion ?

Again, a poor but well explanatory drawing :
