Capping DCG

Post by Tony DCG »

In making DCG masters I sometimes need to heat gun the plate to shift the color blue (per one of Rolison's papers.)

As soon I am at the desired wavelength I quickly cap it using Dave's resin technique.

I notice sometimes the wavelength will shift green making the master almost useless.

My guess is that the fringes are cooling and causing the shift. But I've been thinking a bit about it and thought that the fringes shouldn't be swelling due to moisture since the resin should immediately seal the hologram from water.

If there are any DCG holographers still out there I was wondering if there were any tricks to prevent this shift from occurring. I have tried using IPA to shift it but rarely does it hit the exact wavelength and some heat is almost always needed.

Thanks
Tony

What is Dave's resin technique? I am way behind you. What resin do you recommend? against moisture and longevity.
How is UV vs Epoxy? Somebody said UV will yellow overtime.
