Holography Book

Post by Heferkimbo »

Hello everybody.
I'm sorry if this question seems too dumb but after looking everywhere and searching on this forum i cant find where i found this link http://www2.ensc.sfu.ca/~glennc/e894/hologram.pdf
and i'm trying very hard to find what book is that PDF scanned from as i want to buy it. Does anybody have any idea what book is that?

Whatever it was, it was pretty short, 85 pages, done after 1985. They look like they could be an instructors class notes and pretty basic although gives leads to following up on more sophisticated work. Doesn't match anything in my library. You could probably do as well or better by picking up a used copy of any of Graham Saxby's books published from 1988 onward, variously called "Practical Holography" or "Manual of Practical Holography". Edition four which came out last year is excellent.

I searched the first part of the url: http://www2.ensc.sfu.ca, and came up with a 404, as you see if you follow the link . However, I did find a link to their new site: http://www.ensc.sfu.ca/. It's the Simon Fraser School of Engineering. Then I notice that the rest of the url refers to a glennc, So, digging further, we find: http://www2.ensc.sfu.ca/~glennc/. Apparently Professor Glenn Chapman wrote the excerpt you link to. You can see that he's largely interested in optics, so he may give a course on it. Anyway, then i looked up the last part of the url:e894. We now find: https://www.sfu.ca/engineering/faculty- ... apman.html, and, if you look at the bottom of the page, you find a course entitled ENSC 894 Special Topics II. I suspect, therefore, Professor Chapman taught holography at Simon Fraser School of Engineering as a special topic, and these are his notes.

His email appears in the link to his page, so perhaps you can ask him directly

Thank you guys.
I'll do as you say. Already bought the book you kindly recommended jrburns47. And Din, i already did all that digging, trying to find the source used by Mr. Chapman but couldn't find anything, i definitely thought about writing him directly but it seemed a little too unimportant bothering him with that... but now i think ill do it.

Thank you again.

Heferkimbo: You might find some of the same material here, but from a wackier perspective: file:///C:/Users/EdWesley/Desktop/EWGD/Pedagogy/7SBP/ListFrame7SBP.html. Projects 1a, 1b, and 4 of the 7 Single Beam Projects for the web are sketchy, but the others are quite entertaining and enlightening.

By the way, i found the book from the scanned PDF. It's called "Homemade Holograms: The Complete Guide to Inexpensive, Do-It-Yourself Holography" by John Iovine.

Note to Ed:
The link to the "Creative Camera and Darkroom Techniques, Summer 1986" version of the document is broken. You need to change the link from "7SBPCCDT.PDF" to "7SBPCCDT.pdf".
