I wonder if Dave made a reflection rainbow. That is, the H1 reconstructed as a slit. I did try this once with silver, having a slit come in from the other side to the reference, ie a rainbow in reflection geometry, and i did get a reflection rainbow. If this is what happened, I have no idea why the H1 would reconstruct as a slit.

Sure that make some sense, when there was movement between the two plates , the image would naturally have banding , if the bands ran left to right , there’s your slit(s) Dinesh !
